TROMPE L'OEIL | Trompe L’oeil is a figurative French expression that can be loosely translated as a “trick for the eyes.” By utilizing an architectural element such as a wall, a window, a door, a fence, Trompe L’oeil will, through the use of perspective, bring about an amazing three-dimensional effect on a two-dimensional surface. The incorporation of these architectural objects allows the artist to create an illusion that is so real, it can actually “fool” the eye – so much so, that for an instant, you’ll believe you can really pass through those “French doors,” step out onto the “veranda”, or ascend the “stairs” that you swear you could reach out and touch. |
